Talking 2025 Words of the Year on the Lexis podcast

“The more we are talking about words, the better.”

Lexis is an educational podcast from the UK on language and linguistics.

Over the years, I have had the pleasure of doing scores of media interviews, a good many of them on the topic of the Word of the Year.

Already among my favorites is my most recent—on Lexis, a UK podcast about language and linguistics geared towards young adult students studying what is known as A Level English Language and their teachers. Anyone, though, interested in the subject area will love the show.

Hosts Dan Clayton and Raj Rana and I had an engaging and wide-ranging conversation on the Word of the Year phenomenon. We discussed how dictionaries choose them, what makes for a good or bad choice, what they reveal about our culture and humanity, notable 2025 selections so far, why I personally chose fascism this year, and much more.

I greatly enjoyed talking to Dan and Raj. I think you will enjoy listening. Check out the episode on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Pocket Casts, or Overcast—and consider adding Lexis to your regular podcast diet!
